Happy Holidays and a little outlook to 2015

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014

As the year comes to an end, it’s time for me to give you a small teaser for 2015. In the past 12 month or so, I’ve been working heavily on the next major version Diving Log 6.0 in parallel to the active development of version 5.0 and the phone and tablet apps. The current version 5.0 was started 6 years ago, which was also the beginning of this blog.

So after 6 years and 15 incremental updates within the 5.0 version, it’s time to move up to the next level. Major version updates in Diving Log are usually changes of the development technology and not so much about new features, which are implemented in the incremental updates in between. But there are still some great new things in Diving Log 6.0, which I’ll show you over the next couple of weeks – stay tuned!

I’ve decided to develop most of version 6.0 in private and not start writing about it until I’m sure it can be completed in a reasonable timeframe. Right now I’m planning to release it in spring 2015, but as always in software development, dates can slip.

I wish you Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. Thank you for using Diving Log!

Interview at diveboard.com

Friday, April 29th, 2011

I gave Alex from diveboard.com a quick interview about the history and future of Diving Log:

I’ve been exchanging email with Sven from some time now since I wanted to ensure that Diving Log and Diveboard work well together. He’s a german scuba diver who’s been around forever and who created one of the best logbook for Windows, Diving Log. Apparently this is his first interview ever which is amazing since his software has been downloaded so many times. I hope his users will get to know him a bit better through this post.

Read the entire interview…

Even though I’m currently working hard on finishing version 5.0.3 and the CCR functionality (more about that soon), I’m always looking for new opportunities to extend the ecosystem around Diving Log.

A Look Back at 2010

Friday, December 24th, 2010

As the year draws to a close, there were many pieces of exiting news surrounding Diving Log. In April, the final version of 5.0 was released after more than a year of development. In the following month, synchronization with several online logbooks as well as Android smartphones was added.

Microsoft released the new Windows Phone 7 system this fall. A compatible version of Diving Log was developed and has been available since the beginning of December. Now Diving Log can be synchronized with Apple iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile smartphones.

This past Monday Diving Log 5.0.2 was released, which added many new direct dive computer downloaders. Now you can finally download most dive computers directly with Diving Log 5.0.

I wish you and your family Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
