Update for Windows & Android

Thursday, December 22nd, 2022

A new update for Windows & Android has been released today, with some great new features and improvements:

  • Windows:
    • Downloader: Scorpena Alpha, Scubapro G2 TEK, Oceanic Geo Air
    • Suunto DM 1.x Import
    • Profile: Fill Option
    • Printing: Duplex support
    • Printing: Profile colors configurable
    • Signature Undo & Redo
    • EOL Import improvements
  • Android:
    • Encyclopedia of Life (EOL.org) Search & Import
    • Downloader: Oceanic Geo Air
    • Profile: Fill Option
    • Signature Undo & Redo

Here I want to show you some of the new features:

Often requested, you can now finally fill the profile with some color gradient:

Filled Profile

Android (Profile Options)

Duplex printing is a bit more complex, so I explain this feature on a separate page. If you have a duplex printer and want to print more than one dive per page on the front and back, you can now do this very easily. Diving Log will alternate the print order automatically, so dive #2 is on the back of dive #1, for example.

You can now also configure all colors of the profile graphic in the report designer (double click profile graphic):

Profile print color options!

If you use the signature feature on Windows or Android, you can finally undo and redo the signature on a stroke level. So you do not have to clear everything if you just messed up your final touch. Just hit “Undo”:

Undo and Redo Signature on Windows & Android!

On Windows, you can finally import your 25 years old Suunto Dive Manager 1.6 .sdl logbook files, if you still have them anywhere.

On Android, you can now search for marine life on EOL.org and import the findings into your logbook:

Tap that little “e” in the marine life list

Search EOL.org

Import result into your logbook

I hope you enjoy these improvements and wish you and your family Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and hopefully some peaceful times! And it would be great if you recommend Diving Log to your friends, thank you!

Diving Log for Android Update

Tuesday, April 5th, 2022

I’m happy to announce another update for the Android app of Diving Log and also the availability in the HUAWEI AppGallery! Here are the improvements and new features in this update, also shown in some screenshots below.

Available on Google Play

Explore it on AppGallery

  • Jump List for Dives
  • Profile Cursor Line
  • Profile Measure Function
  • Profile Bookmark Editing
  • Share & Save Profile Picture
  • Share & Save Logbook Images
  • OSTC support for BLE Hardware
  • Tablet UI Improvements
  • OpenStreetMap as replacement on Huawei devices

Huawei was very helpful and dedicated bringing Diving Log to their app store. Because of missing Google functionality, I had to replace Google Maps with OpenStreetMap, but all other features are identical.

You can now open a panel to quickly navigate to a certain dive number. This is a lot easier than scrolling a long list of dives, even though there is fast scrolling at the right edge of the list:

Open Jump List

Quickly jump to dive

In the dive profile, you can move your finger to scroll a red cursor line. When the line is over a bookmark or gas switch, it will show up. You can also use this cursor to add a new bookmark at the cursor position. You can also save the profile picture to the picture gallery or share it to another app. Profile measuring is also available in the “Options” menu:

Profile Cursor & Share Picture

Profile Measure

To edit or delete an existing bookmark, simply tap on it. Other pictures in the logbook can be also saved to the gallery or shared to other apps:

Add & Edit Bookmarks

Share & Save Picture to Gallery

And last but not least, finally some more tablet improvements. The details list and details data screens are now merged together on large screen devices:

Tablet users will be happy about this

Edit Gas Switch

You can now adjust all profile values by an offset and/or factor in the profile editor. This is useful if the recorded data is slightly off, e.g. because you’ve set the wrong water salinity type or the temperature sensor is recording an incorrect water temperature:

Diving Log 6.0.17 released

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available with the following new features and improvements:

  • New dive computers (Mares Genius, Suunto D5, Aqualung i550C, i200C, Oceanic Geo 4.0, Veo 4.0, Pro Plus 4)

  • Depth profile with gas color option
  • Equipment hours/# of dives since last service
  • Scubapro ZDiveLog import fixed for new format
  • Scubase import improved (organisms support)
  • OpenStreetMap display error fixed

The downloader supports now new dive computer models as well as Bluetooth LE support for Oceanic and Aqualung computers. It also solves a download problem which appeared in a recent OSTC firmware update. Many thanks to Jef Driesen from libdivecomputer!

For the depth profile you can now activate an option to draw the profile right in the gas color which was used:

Gas Colors

In the Equipment window you can see now the number of dives and the dive time since the last service date:

Equipment statistics

Please note that there is currently one thing to keep in mind: The current implementation counts all dives since this date, no matter if this piece of equipment was selected in the “Equipment used” list in the logbook window. So if you have pieces of equipment that is not used on every dive, the statistic is not correct right now.

Diving Log beta update

Tuesday, August 21st, 2018

I’ve updated the latest beta version with some new features and improvements:

You can download the latest beta version (6.0.13 Update 3) from the same location as the previous beta:

If you’ve downloaded the full installer, you can either overwrite your existing Diving Log installation or use it as new installation on a test system. If you’ve downloaded the zip file, please make sure you’ve already installed the latest version 6.0.13. Then copy the content of the zip file into the existing Diving Log program folder, overwriting the existing files.

New: Apnea Dives:

Diving Log shows the dive time for scuba dives in full minutes. When a dive is shorter than 5 minutes, Diving Log will automatically switch to minutes:seconds (mm:ss), which is better for apnea (free) dives. The dive profile will show the x-axis in seconds instead of minutes. You can enter dives shorter than 5 minutes in mm:ss format or as decimal value (e.g. 0.5 = 30 seconds).

Diving Log for Android update available

Sunday, November 12th, 2017

A new update of Diving Log for Android is now available on Google Play. It contains the following new features and improvements:

  • Dive list: setting to display entry time, dive time & depth
  • PO2 & ascent rate profile
  • Statistics: setting for prior dive time & overall dive time format
  • Dropbox sync crash fixed for large logbook files
  • File size in logbook management and Dropbox sync dialog
  • Bug fix when creating logbook items with an apostrophe (‘)

You can now optionally show entry time, dive time & depth in the dive list (entry time was already visible in landscape and on tablets). In the dive profile view you can now view the PO2 & ascent/descent rate profiles. The statistics window got some more options to enter the prior dive time (dives not included in your logbook) and the overall dive time format (hours : minutes or days : hours : minutes):

Dive List Settings

PO2 & ascent rate profiles

New options in statistics

I also finally found and fixed the bug which crashed the app when uploading large logbook files (> 20 – 30 MB) to Dropbox. And the sync function progress dialog shows the file size, so you can better estimate how long the upload will take.

Diving Log 6.0.11 released

Sunday, September 17th, 2017

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available with the following new features:

  • New Tank Pressure 1-3 Combined profile
  • New Tank Pressure (Calculated) Profile
  • Tank Gauge Improvements
  • Tanklist variables in Report Designer (all tanks)
  • Android MTP Sync in Windows Creators Update fixed
  • Ratio Divelogger 4 Import

If you don’t have an air-integrated dive computer, you can now view a calculated tank pressure profile, based on your SAC rate and depth profile. The result is surprisingly good (I’ve compared numerous recorded and calculated tank profiles). Below you can see a 70m dive with measured tank profile on top and calculated tank profile on bottom:

Measured and calculated tank profile

Here you can see another example of a dive with two tanks (sidemount) and several switches between both tanks. The calculated profile is almost identical to the measured profile of the two tanks:

Calculated tank profile with two tanks

You can see, even without air integrated dive computer you can now get a detailed tank profile in Diving Log. The tank gauge on the right is also using the calculated profile if no tank sensor data is present.

If you are diving with more than one tank pressure sensor, you can now view optionally all 3 tank profiles merged into one graphic:

3 Tank profiles in one graphic

And last but not least you can finally add the data of all tanks in the report designer to your print layouts. The data is provided in the form of several “LogTankList…” variables, which contain each data type (e.g. tank size) of all tanks in form of a list. You can combine them and get a nice table view of all your tanks:

All tanks in the report designer

Diving Log 6.0.8 released

Thursday, March 16th, 2017

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 has been released with the following new features and improvements:

  • Downloader new computers: Hollis DG02, Aqualung i750TC, Cressi Drake, Sherwood Vision
  • Logbook red cursor line keyboard support
  • Several performance improvements in logbook window
  • Facebook Share profile graphic fixed for High DPI displays
  • Buddy signature full screen support
  • Cochran *.can files import
  • Oceanlog import dive types
  • Equipment & City sort order options

Red cursor line can be moved with keyboard

The red cursor line in the profile graphic can now be moved with the arrow keys on your keyboard. The HOME and END keys jump to the start and end of the profile. The arrow keys will snap to each profile point, which is great for analyzing the profile point by point.

The logbook window had also some performance issues in the past which are now fixed, e.g. fast typing (especially comments), fast navigating within the dive list or the profile crosshair. The root of these performance issues was the drop shadow below the ribbon toolbar. Once I’ve removed the shadow effect, the performance issues were finally gone.

The new Facebook Share feature from version 6.0.7 was not working correctly on high DPI screens. This has been fixed in this update as well. Signing dives on touch screens with a pen is now easier, because you can switch the signature window into full screen with the new touch optimized toolbar. This avoids any accidentally taps on other controls.

And last but not least great news for Cochran users: you can finally import *.can files from Cochran Analyst® into Diving Log!
